Hydrostatic Testing

Hydrostatic testing of pressure vessels such as pipes, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and ship voids is an essential method for quality control of parts after production and during use. This process demonstrates the fitness of the pressurized component for service after production or repair and is significant because such containers can explode if they fail under pressure.

Hydrostatic pressure testing is a well-known industry standard test involving filling the vessel or pipe system with a liquid, usually water, and pressuring the vessel to the specified test pressure. Pressure loss would indicate a leak. A dye may be used for visual identification of the leak location. When water is used in these tests, corrosion of the metal during and after testing is a concern. This concern is because corrosion tends to start when metal is in contact with oxygen and water.

To counteract rust formation and ensure long-lasting protection for pressure vessels, pipes, and other components, ZERUST® offers a suite of corrosion-inhibiting hydrostatic testing additives. Each solution is designed to deactivate ionic contaminants, protect metal surfaces, and meet global environmental standards.

ZERUST® AxxaVis™ HST-10

ZERUST® AxxaVis™ HST-10 is a highly effective, water-soluble hydrostatic testing corrosion inhibitor formulated to neutralize ionic contaminants in water that lead to rust and hard water deposits on ferrous metals. This product protects the interior surfaces of pressure vessels, such as pipes, heat exchangers, and storage tanks, by creating a barrier against rust during and after testing. Ideal for applications involving ferrous metals, AxxaVis™ HST-10 may also be combined with ZERUST® Axxatec™ HST-M100 for pipeline hydrostatic testing environments that include copper or brass alloys.

AxxaVis™ HST-10 is environmentally friendly, non-flammable, and solvent-free, allowing for safe discharge in regulated environments and compliance with TSCA, RoHS, and REACH standards. In some applications, it can be reused, enhancing both sustainability and cost-efficiency.

ZERUST® Axxatec™ HST-20L

ZERUST® Axxatec™ HST-20L is a water treatment concentrate specifically formulated for protecting ferrous metals from hydrostatic corrosion. It effectively deactivates ionic contaminants found in water sources that would otherwise cause rust and scaling during testing. Axxatec™ HST-20L is ideal for large structures such as pipes, heat exchangers, and storage tanks, providing robust protection against corrosion during the entire hydrostatic testing process.

This non-toxic and solvent-free formula complies with global standards and allows for environmentally safe disposal. Axxatec™ HST-20L is also reusable in certain cases, promoting sustainability by reducing waste. For mixed-metal environments involving copper, brass, or aluminum, it can be used in conjunction with ZERUST® Axxatec™ HST-M100.

ZERUST® Axxatec™ HST-M100

For applications that require corrosion protection across various metal types, ZERUST® Axxatec™ HST-M100 hydrotesting fluid additive is an optimal choice. This water-soluble, low-foam solution safeguards a broad range of metals—including aluminum, copper, brass, and ferrous metals—from rust formation. Engineered to counteract ionic contaminants, Axxatec™ HST-M100 ensures durability and protection in hydrostatic testing applications, extending the integrity of components even after testing.

Axxatec™ HST-M100 meets stringent regulatory standards, such as TSCA, RoHS, and REACH, and its solvent-free formulation is safe for use in environmentally sensitive settings. The additive provides a dry-to-touch finish that continues to prevent corrosion, offering enduring protection that is easy to apply and maintain.
