Tanks made out of 304 and 316 stainless steel are recommended. Mild steel tanks can be used but should have good structural integrity and be maintained in good working order. Plastic and poly-lined tanks should be avoided.
ZERUST®/EXCOR® AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS is a sprayable high-flash outdoor rust-preventative coating designed to protect metal parts and assemblies during long-term indoor and outdoor storage and challenging overseas shipping applications where a tough yet removable coating is essential.
Use AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS to safely protect machinery, equipment, other large metal assets, and more for up to 2 years‡ when stored outdoors or for many years‡ when stored indoors. For large surface applications that require protection, such as storage tank walls, pipelines, building infrastructures, bridges, etc., ZERUST® AxxaCoat™ 93 Series is recommended.
When used indoors, AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS coating dries to form a slightly tacky, matte black film. However, when used outdoors and exposed to solar radiation, the outdoor rust preventative coating will cure to a hard, dry-to-the-touch, matte black film. Additionally, once the metal asset is ready to be put back into use or service, the coating may be removed with mineral spirits or kerosene. For an optimal corrosion management solution tailored to your metal assets, we encourage consulting with a ZERUST®/EXCOR® representative.
For over 50 years, beginning with the invention of Vapor Corrosion Inhibiting (VCI) film, ZERUST® has led the market in quality corrosion solution products. Furthermore, we dedicate ourselves to providing expert corrosion management services and further adding solutions for our customers. In addition, ZERUST® users have access to on-site support from ZERUST®/EXCOR® representatives in more than 70 countries. As a result, our customers have peace of mind when they choose ZERUST® for corrosion control management.
ZERUST®/EXCOR® AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS outdoor rust preventative is available in a ready-to-use liquid form. For further ordering information, contact your ZERUST®/EXCOR® representative.

Tanks made out of 304 and 316 stainless steel are recommended. Mild steel tanks can be used but should have good structural integrity and be maintained in good working order. Plastic and poly-lined tanks should be avoided.
Yes. However, the surface temperature should be lower than 120°F (49°C).
No, when AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS is used as prescribed and coated parts are stored indoors or as part of corrosion protection for export parts packaged in boxes, crates, VCI packaging, and/or UV resistant packaging; AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS does not stain the metal surface.
No, AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS leaves a thick coating on the metal surface. Therefore, it’s necessary that the AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS coating is removed by immersing the part in mineral spirits, kerosene, or similar petroleum solvent until the AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS coating is removed prior to painting.
AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS is designed to provide corrosion protection indoors and outdoors as a stand-alone product. In most cases, no additional packaging is required. However, if additional packaging is designed to keep the metal asset free from dirt, dust, etc., we highly recommend that the packaging should not come in contact with the coating until it has fully cured/dried. AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS has been tested to be compatible with ZERUST® VCI packaging and plain plastic packaging. However, we advise you to check before use. If the packaging comes in contact with the coating before it’s fully cured/dried, the packaging will stick to the coating, resulting in some of the coating peeling from the surface. Therefore, you may need to reapply AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS where the coating was removed. For non-ZERUST® VCI packaging, we recommend testing before use.
The corrosion protection provided by all applications is identical. However, brush-on and spray applications for AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS are recommended. When large quantities of small parts need to be processed or when parts have holes, slots, internal surfaces, etc., that spray or brush-on applications cannot reach, then immersion application is recommended.
AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS is designed to provide up to many years‡ of indoor storage protection (when used as prescribed), but it will depend on warehouse conditions (Temperature, RH, UV Radiation, etc.).
Yes, AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS leaves a thick coating on the metal surface. Therefore, it’s necessary that the AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS coating is removed by immersing the part in mineral spirits or kerosene until the AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS coating is removed. Additionally, you may sand, grind, or sandblast the coating off the welding surfaces if the coating is completely cured and hard.
AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS contains a high-flash solvent. Therefore, drying/solvent evaporation times are highly dependent on temperature and humidity. A 3 – 6 mil (WFT) of AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS typically fully dries in roughly 48 – 72 hours at 77°F (25°C) or 1 – 2 hours at 140°F (60°C) and <75% RH. You may accelerate drying by air knife, heated blow-off, or forced air oven at no more than 140°F (60°C).
There are several efficient ways to reduce evaporative losses in a tank, including minimizing the entry opening by using a narrower dip cage, adding walls around the dip tank opening, and avoiding a direct exhaust fan over the immersion tank, etc. In order to prevent excessive solvent loss from the tank when not in use, seal the tank with a tight-fitting lid or float a tight-fitting sheet of polypropylene directly on the surface of the AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS coating in the tank.
Yes, AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS may be reapplied onto the parts. As always, it’s recommended that the parts are clean and free from debris, oil, or other contaminations before reapplying. NOTE: The reapplication of AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS won’t abate any corrosion that already exists.
AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS should not be used in any spray equipment that has a sump and recirculating pump. It should only be used with spray equipment that employs paint pots into which the coating is poured and then sealed. These paint pots are pressurized and deliver the fresh coating directly to the spray gun, and none of the coating flows back into the pot.
No, the AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS product has expired and may not provide the intended corrosion protection performance.
The fully cured AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS coating is temperature resistant up 300°F (150°C)* for short periods of time
* Surface temperature must be below 120°F (49°C) when applying AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS.
Yes. However, we advise to check before use. If the packaging comes in contact with the coating before it’s fully cured/dried, the packaging will stick to the coating, resulting in some of the coating peeling from the surface. Therefore, you may need to reapply AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS where the coating was removed.
AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS is designed to provide up to two years‡ of outdoor storage when coated to a wet film thickness (WFT) of 9 – 15 mil (225 – 375 microns), but it will depend on environmental conditions (Temperature, RH).

Use AxxaCoat™ 93B HFS instead of AxxaCoat™ 90B HFS when corrosion protection is needed for large metal structures, such as storage tanks, bridges, pipelines, etc., and/or when metal assets are continuously exposed to very high humidity, sunlight, and/or heat when stored outdoors.
