ZERUST® Axxatec™ 30C

It is always best practice to use DI or RO water, as the bath life is improved when used. However, suppose DI or RO water is unavailable, Axxatec™ 30C is hard water-compatible. We found no significant protection difference between the bath made with tap water (200 – 250 ppm hardness) and DI water.

Tanks made out of mild steel, stainless steel, and poly-lined tanks are approved for use with Axxatec™ 30C. DO NOT USE an aluminum tank.

ZERUST® has a full line of cleaner products that are compatible or even work synergistically with Axxatec™ 30C. Before combining Axxatec™ 30C with any non-ZERUST® wash solution, compatibility tests should be performed.

ZERUST® offers a complete line of VCI packaging products (e.g., ZERUST® ICT®510-C, ICT®520-HS, ICT®420-35) that are compatible or work synergistically with Axxatec™ 30C. However, compatibility tests have not been completed with any non-ZERUST® VCI packaging products, so it’s recommended to perform compatibility tests before combining Axxatec™ 30C with any non-ZERUST® VCI packaging.

Yes. However, the surface temperature should be lower than 302°F (150°C).

When Axxatec™ 30C is used as prescribed and coated parts are stored indoors or as part of corrosion protection for export parts packaged in boxes, crates, ZERUST® VCI packaging, and/or UV-resistant packaging, Axxatec™ 30C does not stain the metal surface. Axxatec™ 30C may, however, stain the metal surface if incorrectly used – such as if the coated parts are left outdoors without proper UV packaging protection and/or under direct sunlight (UV light) exposure during storage.

No data has been collected on the impact Axxatec™ 30C has on paint adhesion. Therefore, it’s recommended to test paint adhesion on trial parts before painting any parts in production.

Axxatec™ 30C coating can be removed by using ZERUST® AxxaWash™ cleaners (AxxaWash™ NW-10C, KF-121, KF-124) or any commercial alkaline cleaners.

For optimum protection and best practice, it’s highly recommended to completely dry the Axxatec™ 30C coated parts before placing the parts inside any packaging or container. Axxatec™ 30C has been tested to be compatible with ZERUST® VCI packaging (e.g., ZERUST® ICT®510-C, ICT®520-HS) and plain plastic packaging. Test before using any other types of non-ZERUST® VCI packaging. (See ZERUST® VCI packaging guidelines)

The corrosion protection provided by both applications is identical. However, immersion application for Axxatec™ 30C is recommended when large quantities of small parts are processed or when parts have holes, slots, internal surfaces, etc., that spray applications cannot reach. If applied by spraying, additional cleaning benefit is seen due to spray impingement on the metal surfaces.

Axxatec™ 30C is designed to provide up to 3 months^‡ of indoor storage protection depending on the concentration % used (2 – 10%) and warehouse conditions (Temperature, RH). For long-term protection, you may place or wrap the clean parts with the use of ZERUST® ICT®510-C VCI bags and/or films for long-term (years)^‡ corrosion protection, such as export shipment or inventory storage (See ZERUST® VCI packaging guidelines).

Yes, a circulating pump is required, and the flow rate is tank size-dependent. Typical tank turnover should be 0.25 – 1.0 times per minute (for example, a 100-gallon tank should have a pump system that has a minimum flow rate of 25 – 100 gallons/minute).

A filtration system is always recommended, and the filter size is dependent on the customer’s cleanliness level requirement. A typical filter media size is ten microns (10 μm).

We were able to successfully stick weld steel sections that were applied with Axxatec™ 30C. However, some brown/black carbonization residue was noticed and was not easily removed from the surface. Good welding practices are to scrub, sand, or wire brush the areas to be welded, which would remove Axxatec™ 30C from the area.

Axxatec™ 30C coating burns off the metal surface at temperatures higher than 338°F (170°C), so we do not anticipate a negative impact on the heat treatment process. However, as always, it is best practice to test before use.

After coating the parts, we recommend using a mechanical fan, air knife, and/or industrial heating oven (no higher than 302°F (150°C) to dry them properly.

Yes, Axxatec™ 30C may be reapplied onto the parts. As always, it’s recommended that the parts are clean and free from debris, oil, or other contaminations before reapplying. NOTE: The reapplication of Axxatec™ 30C won’t revert any corrosion that already exists

No, the Axxatec™ 30C product has expired and may not provide the intended corrosion protection performance.

Yes, concentrations higher than 10% may be used. However, concentrations higher than 10% can leave a tacky residue on the surface upon drying and offer only small incremental gains in corrosion protection.
Optimum corrosion protection is achieved when:
• Applying Axxatec™ 30C on clean surfaces.
• Diluting Axxatec™ 30C within the higher end of concentration (6-10%).
• Allowing the metal surface to be in contact with Axxatec™ 30C solution for greater than 1 minute (immersion or spray) before removal and drying.
• Maintaining Axxatec™ 30C working solution within optimal operating temperature range. Immersion: ≥72°F (22°C) and Spray: ≥120°F (49°C).
• All metal surfaces are properly coated with Axxatec™ 30C.
• The coated surfaces are dried completely prior to handling or packaging.

Yes, Axxatec™ 30C has been tested compatible with ZERUST® solvent and oil-based rust preventatives (e.g., Axxanol™ A35CD-32, 33CD, Spray-G). However, it is always recommended that a compatibility test be performed before combining Axxatec™ 30C with any non-ZERUST® rust preventative oil.

Based on an independent third-party lab test conducted as part of the GMW16871 AFT compatibility study, parts coated with Axxatec™ 30C, as per instruction, do not negatively affect commonly used DEXRON-VI automotive transmission fluid (ATF) density, viscosity, or friction (slip speed). However, we always recommend testing before use. Contact your ZERUST® account representative for more information on ATF compatibility.

Axxatec™ 30C is not designed to provide outdoor protection. If outdoor protection is needed, AxxaCoat™ 90BHFS, Axxanol™ Spray-G, Axxanol™ Z-Maxx, or Z-Maxx LV is recommended.

Axxatec™ 30C coating remains stable with temperatures up to 302°F (150°C). However, temperatures above 302°F (150°C) will result in Axxatec™ 30C coating breaking down and no longer offering corrosion protection.
