Why?

The crankshaft manufacturer needed to protect the crankshafts during the manufacturing process and inventory storage, as their facility was not climate controlled, resulting in corrosion on the crankshafts

How?

ZERUST® recommended the use of Axxanol™ 750 VCI Oil during the manufacturing process and in conjunction with ICT®510-C VCI Film to combat the corrosion they were experiencing at their facility during inventory storage and the use of AxxaClean™ 2048 to refurbish previously corroded crankshafts

Problem

A manufacturer of automotive crankshafts located in Mexico requested ZERUST®’s assistance as they were experiencing corrosion issues during the manufacturing process as their facility was not climate controlled, resulting in extreme temperatures.

Solution

A local ZERUST® Technical Service Representative visited the crankshaft manufacturer’s facility to complete a process map, collect product samples from the manufacturing site, draw samples of all processing fluids from the production line, evaluate the climatic stress impact, and review the process control plans. The product and fluid samples were then tested at ZERUST®’s laboratory for corrosion management system compatibility.

The ZERUST® Technical Service Team recommended the use of Axxanol™ 750 VCI Oil during the manufacturing process and in conjunction with ICT®510-C VCI Film to combat the corrosion they were experiencing at their facility. They also tested cleaning the already corroded crankshafts by immersing them in AxxaClean™ 2048 for a few hours and then washed the cleaned part with pressurized water after removing the crankshafts from the 2048 Immersion. After cleaning the crankshafts, they were returned to the manufacturing line for quality inspection. The Quality Control manager could not believe the results and was surprised with an incredibly positive outcome.
